The painting was created in the autumn of 2024 during a one-month stay in Milan. It was inspired by Kaspar Laurenz’s study of Renaissance painting at the Pinacoteca di Brera, where his color palette began to shift toward warmer tones of orange and red for the first time.

The work reflects Kaspar Laurenz’s willingness to engage with the styles, motifs, and pictorial elements of earlier artists. By reconfiguring the composition and bringing together figures from different sources in a collage-like manner, he moves beyond mere imitation, transforming these references into an independent work of art.

Shortly afterwards, The Wilder Kaiser No. 1/36 was created—the first landscape composition dominated by red tones and, at the same time, the beginning of a new serial approach to painting.
