This small-format painting from the series "36 Moods of the Wilder Kaiser" is work No. 4/36 and directly follows the first three large-format paintings in the series. It was initially created as a color study for the later painting No. 21/36, which underwent the same color transformation.

The work itself developed over a long period. Only in the final layers of paint did the luminous yellow sunset atmosphere emerge. In this palette, Kaspar Laurenz translates the intense yellow of Vincent van Gogh's sunflowers into the atmosphere of a warm summer evening at the Wilder Kaiser.

With its intimate use of color and exceptionally fine, densely swept brushstrokes, the painting develops a special spatial depth and sense of intimacy.

The work is considered seminal for the small-format pieces within the series "36 Moods of the Wilder Kaiser." After its completion, it was first presented in the Benjamin Eck Gallery in Munich and subsequently shown in the exhibition "36 Moods of the Wilder Kaiser" at Studio G10 in Kitzbühel.
