The Wilder Kaiser No. 6/36

from the series 36 Moods of the Wilder Kaiser

2026

Oil on canvas

40 x 40 cm

CR 10-3

With No. 6/36, Kaspar Laurenz captures a nocturnal mood at the Wilder Kaiser mountain range. Deep blue tones and subtly nuanced shades of light lend the painting a tranquil, almost meditative atmosphere. At its heart is an extraordinary natural phenomenon: the Northern Lights, which were observed repeatedly over the Wilder Kaiser for the first time during the creation of the series "36 Moods of the Wilder Kaiser."

However, the Northern Lights depicted in the painting are not based on a specific on-site observation. Rather, they are a freely painted recollection of a trip to Lyngen in northern Norway in 2023, where the artist experienced the aurora borealis firsthand. This memory merges with the landscape of the Wilder Kaiser, creating a pictorial space that exists between actual observation of nature and personal recollection.
