The southern mountains in the autumnal midday light
from the series 36 Moods of the Wilder Kaiser
2025
Oil on canvas
30 x 30 cm
CR 2-07
The work was created in the autumn of 2025 for Kaspar Laurenz’s first solo exhibition, Autumn Impressions, in Kitzbühel. It depicts the view from Lebenberg in Kitzbühel toward the southern mountains of Aurach, a motif that Alfons Walde had repeatedly explored from the surroundings of Kitzbühel.
In the hazy midday light, the landscape loses much of its natural coloration and condenses into deep shades of blue and green. At the same time, the grassy summits of the Schützkogel and Gamshag appear in their characteristic reddish autumn tones. These gently glowing red mountain peaks blend into the muted, planar atmosphere of the painting.
