Rosenstein of Dialects

The Rosenstein of Dialects is a concept for a publicly accessible work that documents regional differences within a dialect. A text relating to the specific location or region would be carved in stone in several slightly different dialect versions.

The work could take various forms: as a standalone stone, as an inscription on a building, on a fountain, or as part of an existing architectural feature. Crucially, it would remain permanently accessible in the public space. The use of stone underscores the aim of preserving linguistic peculiarities that can change or disappear over time.

The concept could be implemented in various locations. For the Kitzbühel region, for example, a local narrative could be presented in the different dialect variations of neighboring villages. This would also make subtle linguistic differences visible, which are often barely noticeable outside the region.

The title is a loose adaptation of the Rosetta Stone, which contains a text in multiple language versions.
