Poster competition 2027 rejected
The poster design "The Water Carriers" was created for the competition to design the official poster for the 2027 Hahnenkamm Races in Kitzbühel.
The design focuses on the relationship between the athlete and the Streif downhill course. The racer is not shown during the downhill run, but rather in a quiet moment before the race, directly opposite the Hahnenkamm. The hustle and bustle of the race weekend recedes into the background; the mountain, the course, and the athlete dominate the image.
Striking cloud formations, known locally as "water carriers," rise above the Hahnenkamm. According to local farming tradition, they serve as weather indicators and gave the design its title.
The graphic design was created over more than one hundred hours of work and, with its reduced flatness and lines, is influenced by Japanese woodblock prints, among other sources. The goal was to create a depiction that not only shows the Hahnenkamm as the backdrop for a ski race, but also gives it an independent presence within the poster.
The design was submitted for the 2027 Hahnenkamm race but was not selected. The submission is documented here as part of the project's history.
