Tree of 100 Apple Blossoms – Going am Wilden Kaiser, Kitzbühel, and Innsbruck

In 2026, Tyrolean artist Kaspar Laurenz will plant three apple trees in public spaces as part of his "Tree of 100 Apple Blossoms" project. The locations are in Going am Wilden Kaiser, Kitzbühel, and Ambras Castle Park in Innsbruck.

These plantings mark the beginning of a long-term art project. Starting in 2027, the trees will be gradually grafted with different, primarily heritage, apple varieties from their respective regions. Over the years, each tree will bear a variety of apples, each with its own unique blossoms and fruit. The exact number of varieties that will grow on each tree will be intentionally left open and will depend on its development.

The tree in Kitzbühel will be maintained as a sponsorship project in partnership with the Kitzbühel Elementary School. School classes can observe the tree's development over the years and participate in the annual grafting process and its documentation. In this way, the children learn about different apple varieties, their origins, and the grafting technique right at the tree.

The trees are not planted as finished works of art. They develop further each year. Growth, pruning, new grafts, and even the success or failure of individual grafts become part of the project.
